MarbleWorks

Last night Stephen and I played MarbleWorks, a toy from Discovery Toys  where you build a tower out of various ramps and connectors, and put marbles in at the top. The marbles roll down through the ramps and make things spin and make a lot of noise. When they get to the bottom, you can pick the marbles up and drop them into the top again.

We've had this toy for years, and I've never seen Stephen take much interest in it, but last night, he took it out of the cabinet (actually, I helped him after he said, "Help, I want help with this.") and started building with it. It is very rare that Stephen will build something, so I was pretty excited to see him so interested. He built this crazy structure that was all ramps and no supports. After a while, I started helping him with it, adding supports and so on, so that it would stand up long enough for him to put the marbles in.

He laughed and squealed and shouted "marbles!" for over an hour. One of the best things about Stephen is his smile. He has the kind of simple, unreserved smile that is very rare to see in someone over the age of three. He grinned the whole time he played MarbleWorks.
